Check Wikipedia for synthpop. The caracteristics of synthpop are only found in S&S and BF. The rest can be called industrial, electro synth rock, et cetera.

dm is certainly not synthpop? sure? then i was wrong the last 23 years thinking it was... well. i was only 13 when i first heard them back in 1985, too young to discover they are electro rock or alternative. those days electro rock was not yet described as a genre, nor was alternative... hahaha!
