This is really hard for me too say considering my tastes in music but.....Pink Floyd might be the best band of all time.

They were breaking into the avant garde segment of music at the time and experimenting with atonality - influence by Shoenberg and Stockhausen's experiments with sound. That they return to tonality in the end is a gorgeous bridge between what were two very different conceptions of music.

all the noise and buildup in the beginning seems kind of like tension building from a slight dissagreement to a roaring rage, and then when neither side can take it any longer the action is taken, which is signaled by the marching war drum pattern by mason. from this point it is a continuing battle of epic proportions until both sides have demolished eachother and nothing is left but the thin voice of a ghost(organ) pondering and reflecting through each chord change why it had to come to that.
