answer:just stand next to a highway or a freeway once, and notice the gusts that come from the air being pushed aside by the quickly passing cars. the trains go really fast, and displace the air around them.the vents above the trains are an immediate escape for that air being pushed. so it goes up into that vent and out to the street. otherwise it would flow sideways, and all the people standing in the subway would get their clothes blown off!
